Triple Eight Racing’s Andrew Jordan and Jack Goff are chasing another weekend of consistent points scoring ahead of the British Touring Car Championship’s visit to Oulton Park.
The pair have recorded solid, if unspectacular, results from the opening nine races of the campaign, with a modest return of three second-place finishes combined but just one retirement between them.
And that trend of consistency is one that both drivers are hoping to continue this weekend, with Sunday’s opening race also marking MG’s 100th race since their return to the sport as a manufacturer with Triple Eight in 2012.
While Jordan insisted that winning races remained a target, he said he would be happy to prioritise solid points finishes over going all out for victory.
“I’m looking forward to the weekend,” enthused the 2013 champion. “Since Thruxton I have spent a lot of time working with my engineer to unlock more performance and it has been really positive.
“The MG has traditionally been well suited to Oulton Park in the past but everything has moved on in the last year. I’m confident that we can roll out in practice with a strong car and hopefully challenge towards the front in qualifying.
“Of course I want to win races but I’m not going to get desperate because I don’t need to be – we will take it one race at a time. I love Oulton Park too, it is a really old school circuit that has been unchanged and there are lots of elevation changes through the trees, which gives a real sense of speed.
“There is always a huge crowd that attends and the atmosphere is great. Whenever we do track walks the campsites are full and the BBQ’s are all set up, it feels like a real party, which is brilliant.”
Goff meanwhile was eager to reward MG in their landmark appearance back in the sport, at a circuit where he took his maiden Clio Cup win.
“To be part of the team and celebrate MG’s 100th race this weekend is quite an achievement and hopefully both I and Andrew can achieve some good results for everyone to celebrate,” he said. “We performed well at Thruxton and over the short break we’ve been able to look through the data and unlock some more performance.
“I’m heading into this weekend confident that we can challenge towards the front and get back on the podium. Everyone has moved forward in terms of performance since we last visited the circuit but so have we.
“I won my first every Clio Cup race around Oulton Park so it holds fond memories for me. It is a real driver’s circuit and now that we are back on the Island layout, there should be more opportunities to overtaking. There is always a big crowd that turns out to watch and we have a lot of sponsors that are from the North of the country, it is always a brilliant event.”
