Spaniard Jordi Oriola will compete in the inaugural TCR International Series event in Sepang, Malaysia next weekend, racing an Opel Astra OPC alongside Ukrainian Igor Skuz.
It was revealed last month that Oriola was set to make two wildcard appearances in the new championship and was announced to race a SEAT León Cup racer for Team Target Competition. However it has now been revealed that the 18-year-old will also make a wildcard appearance for Campos in the season opener.
It also means that Jordi Oriola will race against his older brother Pepe Oriola, who will be campaigning a SEAT León for Team Craft-Bamboo Lukoil.
“I am very excited to be in the TCR International Series as this is an important challenge in my sporting career,” said Oriola. “It will be a busy year, and I will race in the SEAT León Eurocup as well, but I want to make the most out of this opportunity.
“I am also excited to race against my brother Pepe for the first time since our karting years, I have tested the Opel Astra OPC and the feeling was very good; I also know the team and I believe we will do a good job together.”
Campos Team Manager Joan Orús believes that the younger Oriola has a bright future in touring car racing.
“Jordi has a very promising future in Touring Cars,” explained Orús. “He should take this year as an apprenticeship, so that in 2016 he can become a serious contender in the TCR International Series. We are very pleased that he accepted our offer, because the Campos Racing project is very ambitious.”
The announcement means that Oriola is now set to compete in three TCR International Series events, with his next appearances being in Valencia and Monza in May.
