Senna Proctor to make BTCC race return in second half of the season

Senna Proctor will return to the British Touring Car Championship for the second half of the 2025 season when he takes over the Team Vertu car which will be raced by Michael Crees in the first five events.

Proctor, 26, will thus return to the EXCELR8 Motorsport-run team with whom he raced in the 2020 season, when he was one of the first drivers to race a Hyundai i30 N Fastback.

Making his BTCC début in 2017 with Power Maxed Racing, Proctor was at the time one of the youngest drivers to join the BTCC grid at just 18 years old.

Staying with the team in 2018, Proctor won his first BTCC race at Brands Hatch early in the year and won from the lowest grid position ever in the BTCC in a rain-affected race, before he changed teams for the following season to join the Team BMR-run Subaru squad in its final year.

He moved to EXCELR8 Motorsport in 2020, before changing teams again in 2021 to join BTC Racing from the second event of the year onwards.

Despite contesting 27 of the 30 races, that season proved to be the best of his career as Proctor added another win to his tally and visited the podium on five more occasions on his way to tenth overall in the drivers’ standings.

Proctor has since been away from the BTCC for the past three seasons after being unable to find a suitable drive and budget.

Proctor will also act as the team’s official reserve driver for the first half of the 2025 season.

“It is great to be returning to the BTCC with EXCELR8 and to be joining forces with Team VERTU, firstly as reserve driver for the first half of the season, before returning to competitive action on home soil at Croft,” said Proctor.

“It’s been a long wait for me to get back into a BTCC car, and I’m excited that the opportunity has now come along to me to return to the grid.

“I have driven the Team VERTU car before when it was first introduced into the series, so I am looking forward to seeing how much it has changed since then.

“It’s clearly one of the top cars on the grid so even though I’ve been away from the series for a while, my aim it to be straight back up to speed from the outset and fight for strong results.

“This part season allows me to lay a solid foundation for a full-time programme in 2026 and beyond.

“Everything is there to do the job as I have a great car, a great team behind me and three great team-mates in Tom Ingram, Tom Chilton and Adam Morgan. There can be no excuses, and it’s great to be back.”

Justina Williams, Team VERTU Team Owner, believes Proctor can deliver some strong resilts in 2025.

“We’re delighted to welcome Senna back into the team this season, firstly in the role of reserve driver for the first half of the season before he steps into a race seat from his home round at Croft,” added Williams.

“When we first introduced the EXCELR8 car into the series, Senna played a key role in the early development of the car despite difficult circumstances caused by the pandemic and government lockdowns.

“I know Senna is very capable of doing a great job behind the wheel and we are confident that he will deliver some strong results and challenge for multiple podiums during his five rounds as part of the driver line-up.”
