Giacomo Ghermandi will return to the TCR Europe series in Portugal this weekend, as he continues his relationship with MM Motorsport to race a Honda Civic in the European series.
Ghermandi, 40, made his TCR début in 2021 when he took on a full season in the TCR Eastern Europe series, finishing tenth overall, also making a one-off appearance in TCR Europe at Monza later in the year.
For 2022, the Italian took on a full season in TCR Europe, racing a CUPRA Leon Competición and finishing 32nd in a competitive season.
Since then, he has focussed on TCR Eastern Europe once again, finishing sixth overall in 2023 and tenth overall in 2024. He also made one-off entries in TCR Europe at Monza in 2023 and Brno in 2024.
Continuing in TCR Eastern Europe in 2025, Ghermandi scored a maiden win earlier this month at the Red Bull Ring.
“The success achieved at the Red Bull Ring in the TCR Eastern Europe has given us a great boost of enthusiasm and confidence,” said Ghermandi, who will receive support from Pepe Oriola.
“We are very excited at the idea of returning to compete in the top category at European level, even though we are aware that a very demanding challenge awaits us.
“The level of the opponents will be very high as usual, but at the same time we want to measure ourselves and to understand on a personal level where I am on my growth path.
“As always, I will be supported by my coach Pepe Oriola and the MM Motorsport team, with whom we have become a big family and we aim for great results together in the future.”
Team Principal Emanuele Alborghetti is looking forward to continuing to work with Ghermandi, who will be team-mates with Marco Butti.
“We are truly happy to announce today that we will field a second car in TCR Europe for Giacomo,” added Alborghetti.
“‘Jack’ has grown a lot as a driver. He is an explosive mix of speed, creativity, and talent. His victory at the Red Bull Ring is the clearest proof of that.
“For his return to the championship, I’m sure he will be able to make his mark.”
