Dexter Patterson will return to the British Touring Car Championship after a year away in 2025, after signing a deal with Un-Limited Motorsport to race its second CUPRA Leon.
Patterson, 21, made his BTCC début in 2022 when he raced a rear-wheel drive Infiniti alongside Aiden Moffat.
The Scot ended his maiden season in 23rd, scoring points on three occasions, before switching to Team HARD for 2023.
His standout performance in his sophomore season was on home soil at Knockhill, when Patterson hauled his CUPRA to sixth in the final race of the day, helping him to 22nd overall in the drivers’ standings, despite scoring eight times as many points as the previous year during the campaign.
After a year away racing in European GT4 in 2024, Patterson will join the young Un-Limited Motorsport team alongside MINI Challenge graduate Max Hall in 2025.
“I’m excited to be back on the BTCC grid after spending a year racing GT4 in Europe,” said Patterson. “Having already competed in two BTCC seasons, I have a strong understanding of the championship and the driving style required to succeed.
“My main goal for 2025 is to extract the maximum performance from every event on the calendar, with a particular focus on the Jack Sears Championship. Of course, a few podiums along the way would be fantastic, too.
“It feels great to be returning to BTCC, as there’s definitely unfinished business. With every season, I gain more experience, which will only help in such a close and competitive championship.
“My goal now is to quickly adapt the car to suit my driving style and continue pushing it forward to get the most out of it.”
Bob Sharpless, Team Owner, expects Patterson to be in a strong position in the growing young team, thanks to his prior knowledge of the car from 2023.
“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Dexter to Un-Limited Motorsport for the 2025 season,” said Sharpless. “We had the chance to do some testing with him at the end of 2024, and his pace in the CUPRA was undeniable.
“Having raced with the car before, he was immediately comfortable and confident, which is a huge asset for the team.
“With Dexter and Max as teammates, we’re in a strong position to make a serious push for the Jack Sears and Independent Championships.
“Dexter’s a former World Karting Champion, and he’s got unfinished business with the Jack Sears Trophy—he’s hungry to prove himself.
“Together, we’re aiming to climb higher in the standings and deliver some exciting results in 2025.”
