Santiago Urrutia doubles up in Zhouzhou practice

Santiago Urrutia stayed on top of the times in the second FIA TCR World Tour and TCR China practice session at Zhouzhou in China, as the Lynk & Co driver headed a Cyan Racing 1-2-3-4.

Urrutia had earlier posted the fastest lap in the opening session with a time of 1 minute 45.198 seconds, but after rain arrived for second practice, the times were much slower, with Urrutia lapping in 1:55.758.

The Uruguayan ended up 0.141 seconds faster than team-mate Yann Ehrlacher, with Ma Qing Hua a further half a tenth back. Thed Björk completed the Cyan quartet, just over a quarter of a second slower than Urrutia’s time.

BRC Racing’s Néstor Girolami was the best of the rest in fifth as the leading Hyundai, improving substantially on his performance earlier in the day when no Hyundai drivers made it into the top ten.

Esteban Guerrieri was the leading Honda racer in sixth, the GOAT Racing driver seven tenths off the pace, ahead of reigning champion Norbert Michelisz in eighth, the Hyundai driver being the only other driver within a second of the blue cars.

GOAT Racing’s Dušan Borković and Teamwork Motorsport’s David Zhu completed the top ten, the latter as the leading TCR China driver in his Lynk & Co.

GOAT Racing’s Marco Butti put his Honda in 11^th, whilst series returnee Rob Huff was 12^th in his Audi, over two seconds adrift of Urrutia.

Fewer TCR China drivers were able to mix with the TCR World Tour regulars in second practice, with points leader Jason Zhang in 14^th, just under 2.5 seconds off the pace as the second in the local ‘class’.

Qualifying takes place on Saturday at 10:00 local time (03:00 BST, 04:00 CEST) followed by race one at 14:00 local time (07:00 BST, 08:00 CEST).
