Colin Turkington: Double podium was ‘a nice way to close the season out’

Colin Turkington said it had been a ‘wonderful day’ at Brands Hatch, as stable-mate Jake Hill clinched the British Touring Car Championship drivers’ title, whilst the duo helped BMW to a record tenth manufacturers’ crown.

Turkington played the consummate team player in the BTCC season finale, securing ole position on Saturday before giving up a win in race one and then preventing Hill’s rival Tom Ingram from getting by.

He followed Hill home in race two, claiming a second podium finish of the day, before fishing his season with fifth in a greasy finale.

The Northern Irishman ended the year fourth in the drivers’ standings, tied on points with Dan Cammish but ahead thanks to claiming five wins to Cammish’s one.

“So that’s the 2024 BTCC over for us,” said Turkington. “Jake did an incredible job – he’s a worthy champion and also BMW are manufacturers’ champions for a record tenth time, so it’s been a wonderful day.

“It’s been a great day for me as well – the BMW 3 Series has been electric-quick. It’s been a lot of fun and it’s been a nice way to close the season out.

“I think we’re all ready for a rest now and I’m looking forward to forgetting about motorsport for a few weeks, but I’m sure once the dust settles, we’ll look back fondly on a great season.”
