Tom Ingram heading to Silverstone ‘in confident mood’

EXCELR8 Motorsport’s Tom Ingram says he is in a ‘confident mood’ ahead of this weekend’s penultimate British Touring Car Championship meeting of the season at Silverstone.

The 31-year-old goes into a crucial weekend in the title battle just nine points adrift of leader Jake Hill, with six races still to run.

Over the years the Silverstone National circuit has been a happy hunting ground for Ingram, who has no fewer than six victories to his name at the Northamptonshire venue.

And although he didn’t win there last year, Ingram nonetheless produced one of the drivers of the season to go from 22nd on the grid to third – and last time out at Donington Park, Ingram almost gained as many places when he went from 19th on the grid to second in another crucial recovery drive.

Determined drivers such as that have kept Ingram firmly in the hunt in the 2024 title race, and despite having the second-least amount of hybrid of anyone going into qualifying, he is in a positive mood.

“Silverstone has always been a strong circuit for me in the past and I’m going there in confident mood despite a tricky weekend at Donington Park last time out,” said Ingram.

“The fact that we were able to battle back as we did to finish on the podium showed how well the car is performing at the moment, and we have to try and make the most of it this time around.

“We know that the Hyundai is a strong package at Silverstone, and we are at that stage of the season now where every point counts, so we have to maximise each session.

“Hybrid is going to have an impact on Saturday in qualifying, so the first goal is to try and make sure we are as high up the grid as possible.

“Come race day, we’ll be going on the attack to score as many points as we can and I’m looking to try and get onto the top step of the podium.”

Justina Williams, Team Owner, believes that the team have taken further steps forward with its Hyundai i30 N Fastback this year.

“Ahead of such a big weekend, we are firmly focused on the job at hand and trying to deliver the best results that we can on track,” added Williams.

“We have shown this season that the Hyundai has taken a step forwards and having run strongly at Silverstone last year, we go into the weekend confident that all four drivers will be in contention for some good results to maintain our title challenge.”
