Levente Losonczy leads ALM Motorsport 1-2 in Brno race two

Levente Losonczy led an ALM Motorsport 1-2 in the second TCR Europe race at Brno in Czechia, as team-mate Ignacio Montenegro followed him home whilst Franco Girolami and title rival Aurélien Comte were both penalised.

Losonczy started the reverse-grid race from pole position, and the young Hungarian duly scored a lights-to-flag win, his second of the season, after proving he had the pace over his Argentine team-mate.

Montenegro was quickly up to second in his Honda, passing front-row starter Bartosz Groszek at Turn 5, but the Honda driver lacked the pace thereafter to take the fight for the win to team-mate Losonczy, ultimately finishing over a second back.

The safety car had been called upon at the end of the opening lap, due to an accident between Žarko Knego and Petr Čížek, which saw the latter crash into Knego’s Hyundai and take both drivers out of the race.

Racing resumed on lap five, with Comte quickly making short work of Giovanni Scamardi to claim fourth, quickly followed by Viktor Andersson denying CUPRA racer Scamardi of fifth.

Comte ran in fourth for most of the race, but by lap eight title rival Girolami had caught up to the back of him with a swift move on Andersson’s Lynk & Co.

Girolami tried a move on Comte for fourth on lap ten, but the Frenchman got the switchback on him and reclaimed the place almost immediately.

Comte then found himself held up by Groszek going onto the final lap, and a few corners from the finish tagged the rear quarter of the Audi, with Groszek sliding out of the final podium place and dropping a trio of positions.

Ultimately, Comte would be penalised for the contact, with five seconds added to his race time, handing the final podium place to Girolami.

However, Girolami too was hit with a post-race penalty for overtaking behind the safety car, with five seconds dropping him to ninth.

That gave Andersson the final podium place, ahead of Groszek in fourth and Janík Motorsport’s Adam Kout in fifth.
