Jake Hill ‘extremely happy’ with Knockhill results

Laser Tools Racing’s Jake Hill was ‘extremely happy’ with his results north of the border in last weekend’s British Touring Car Championship races at Knockhill, following a victory and a brace of fifths.

Having qualified in seventh on Saturday, managing with the second-least amount of hybrid boost in the field, Hill elected to get the medium-compound tyre out of the way in race one, as most of his rivals started on the faster soft compound rubber.

The 30-year-old overtook Daniel Rowbottom at mid-distance for fifth and remained there to the chequered flag.

With a tyre advantage and increased boost for race two, Hill made good progress early on in the race, and by lap five was all over the back of stablemate Colin Turkington for the race lead.

In the end, Turkington didn’t put up a strong fight and Hill, thanks to a good exit from the final corner, took the lead on lap six, going on to score his sixth win of the season.

Drawn to start from 12th, the lowest place possible, for the reverse grid final race, the BMW driver stayed out of trouble to take fifth, and with it ensured he has closed the gap to championship leader Tom Ingram to just three points.

“Myself and the team are extremely happy with our trip to Knockhill,” said Hill. “Two fifth-place finishes and a race victory means that we outscored my championship rivals this weekend which was the main goal heading into this round.

“Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport and the WSR crew did a superb job once again this weekend and the progress we made from FP1 to the races showcased how hard everyone is working to make sure we are battling at the front.

“We cut the gap in the championship fight from 21 points down to just three and we are ready to continue the attack at Donington Park in two weeks’ time.”
