Santiago Concepción kept GOAT Racing and Honda on top of the times in the second practice session for the TCR Europe series at Spa-Francorchamps, lapping the Belgian circuit around seven tenths of a second slower than Thursday’s best time.
The Spaniard’s team-mate and compatriot Felipe Fernández Gil had been quickest yesterday, with a 2:29.544, but times on Friday morning were slower, due to the cooler track temperatures early in the morning in the Ardennes forest.
As with first practice, the top time came near the end, when Concepción put in a lap good enough to go a tenth of a second clear of the Monlau Motorsport CUPRA of Franco Girolami.
ALM Motorsport’s Ignacio Montenegro was third behind his Argentine compatriot, 0.243 seconds off the pace, ahead of SP Compétition’s championship leader Aurélien Comte in fourth.
ALM’s Ruben Volt was fifth, half a second adrift, ahead of GOAT Racing’s Rubén Fernández Gil in sixth.
A closer session saw the top seven drivers within a second of the pace, as Comtoyou Racing’s Nicola Baldan was the only other driver within that margin from his rivals.
FP1 pace-setter Felipe Fernández was only 11th fastest this time, over 2.4 seconds adrift of his best lap a day prior.
Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 13:00 CEST (12:00 BST).
