Tom Ingram set the quickest time during the opening British Touring Car Championship practice session of the weekend at Croft.
Arriving at the 2.1-mile circuit second in the standings to Jake Hill, Ingram steered his EXCELR8-run Hyundai to a time of 1m21.906, a tenth and a half of a second faster than nearest challenger, Colin Turkington (Team BMW).
Evans Halshaw Power Maxed Racing’s Aron Taylor-Smith rounded out the top three, his best time in the Vauxhall Astra a further two tenths adrift.
Rob Huff’s Toyota and the NAPA Racing-run Ford of Ash Sutton made it five different marques in the top five, with current championship leader Jake Hill sixth.
Fresh from a long-awaited return to the top step of the podium at Oulton Park, Josh Cook was seventh-quickest, with Dan Rowbottom (Ford), Tom Chilton’s Hyundai and Adam Morgan’s BMW completing a top ten split by a mere half-second.
Ronan Pearson was 11th, with the newest addition to the BTCC’s ‘Podium Club’, Mikey Doble (Vauxhall) in 12th.
Dan Cammish (Ford) celebrated an extension to his NAPA Racing UK contract on Friday, and managed the 13th best time, with Chris Smiley’s CUPRA and the Toyota of Andrew Watson rounding out the 15 fastest runners.
FP2 is scheduled to get underway at 12:10 (BST).
