Dan Cammish: “I’d have snapped your hand off” for Croft front row berth

NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Cammish was left elated, saying he’d have “snapped your hand off” for a front row start in the British Touring Car Championship at Croft prior to qualifying.

Hot off the back of celebrating an extended contract with the NAPA Ford operation, Cammish was second-quickest in qualifying around the 2.1-mile Yorkshire venue this afternoon, bested only by Colin Turkington, who claimed a 29th career pole.

With a 42-point deficit to the top of the standings at the halfway stage in the season, and with current championship leader Jake Hill back in the midfield, Cammish will be looking to use tomorrow’s triple-header as the springboard for a successful second half of the campaign.

“I’m really happy with that one,” says Cammish.

“If you’d have told me we’d be second I’d have snapped your hand off. We got pole here last year and we were really strong, but you’re looking at the timesheets today, I had to trust that we had the pace for qualifying. I’ve just chipped away throughout the day.”

Cammish’s form – whilst always respectable – has seen a real uptick in recent rounds, with the Leeds-born racer scoring four podium finishes, plus another two top-fives, in the past six rounds.

“Over the last few rounds, we’ve had a good habit of peaking when it really matters, which I’m very proud of,” adds Cammish. “We are able to build as a team towards the ultimate moment. It’s been a good day.”
