Mikey Doble enjoys best-ever BTCC weekend at Snetterton

Mikey Doble scored his best-ever results in the British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton, with the Power Maxed Racing driver securing a career-best fourth in race two.

Having been the leading Vauxhall in both practice sessions on Saturday, on both occasions lapping inside the top ten, Doble and team-mate Árón Taylor-Smith both failed to progress out of their Q1 qualifying group in a frustrating session with changeable conditions.

From 16th on the grid for the dry opening race, Doble managed to press forward to 13th come the chequered flag, which was still second in the Independents’ class.

A heavy downpour before race two made tyre choice a lottery, and Doble elected to stick with the safer option of running on wet rubber. That ultimately proved the right decision after a late-race shower kept the circuit wet, and after rival Tom Chilton was given a post-race penalty for gaining an unfair advantage, Doble went on to score a career-best fourth place overall finish.

For the final race, from fifth on the grid, Doble slipped back to tenth but still scored a double top ten for the first time in his BTCC career.

“It’s been another unpredictable and action-packed weekend in the BTCC so I’m over the moon to be coming away with a best finish of fourth, two Independent wins and extending my lead in the Jack Sears Trophy,” said Doble.

“On reflection, our only bad session all weekend was qualifying and that came down to us just not getting the car in the window.

“In race one we had some good battles to make up a few spots and then obviously the heavens opened before (and during) race two.

“We made the right call on tyres and the car felt incredible; I just got my head down and worked my way up the order.

“In race three I was almost in the wall but we managed to recover and again score a brilliant result. I’m really happy with how it has all gone!

“In the past Snetterton has always been a bit of a hit and miss circuit for us as a team so it’s great to have achieved these results.

“We’re now going to a circuit in Thruxton which has been a happy hunting ground for us down the years and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve there.”
