The TCR Europe series will see two new drivers in this weekend’s races at Zolder, as Eric Gené and Santiago Concepción join the grid for the second event of the season.
Spaniard Gené was listed on the entry list for the season opening event at Vallelunga, but the 17-year-old did not take part in the event.
Gené, son of tin-top stalwart Jordi, made his touring car début in the TCR Spain Preseason championship in February this year, where he raced a CUPRA Leon Competición to four out of four podium finishes, including one win. He was thus runner-up in the short series’ standings.
Gené will be run by Monlau Motorsport in a new CUPRA León VZ TCR.
The other new entry is that of Spaniard Concepción, who will be run by GOAT Racing in a Honda Civic Type-R FL5 TCR.
Concepción, 20, has spent the past two years competing in sportscar racing in the European Le Mans Series, although he does have prior TCR experience from competing in the 2021 Spanish Endurance Championship’s TCR class, where he took two class wins in a CUPRA.
The new entries take the grid size up to 14 cars, consisting of seven Hondas, five CUPRAs, one Lynk & Co and one Audi.
