Ignacio Montenegro, the 2023 TCR South America champion, will move to Europe for 2024, where the young Argentine will focus on campaigns in TCR Europe and TCR Spain with JAS Motorsport and ALM Motorsport.
Montenegro, 19, made his touring car début only two years ago, when he competed in three rounds of his domestic Súper TC2000 series.
He impressed in a full campaign in Súper TC2000 in 2022, finishing sixth overall and claiming one win.
This year, he has combined campaigns in TC2000, where he finished third with four victories, and TCR South America, where he was the overall champion after taking four wins and six podiums.
He will race a new Honda Civic Type-R FL5 TCR next year as part of the JAS Motorsport young driver programme, with Estonian outfit ALM Motorsport running his car.
“First of all, I wish to thank all the people who helped me to reach this goal of joining the JAS Motorsport and ALM Motorsport programme for continuing my career in Europe,” said Montenegro.
“The TCR concept is also instrumental, because racing the same cars as the one I drove in TCR South America makes everything easier.
“I hope to be up to task of representing the Argentine colours at the best.”
Montenegro follows in the footsteps of compatriots Néstor Girolami, Esteban Guerrieri and Franco Girolami, who have all competed successfully in Europe after relocating to the continent.
