Rob Huff: ‘I wasn’t going to let Will have that one!’

Rob Huff was delighted to beat TCR Australia front-runner Will Brown in the final TCR world Tour / TCR Australia race in Sydney, giving the Comtoyou driver a second win of the season in his quest for the overall world title.

Huff claimed a lights-to-flag win after jumping ahead of fellow Audi racer Brown at the start, with Brown later receiving a five-second time penalty for a false start.

But that wouldn’t have mattered anyway for Huff, who successfully defended his lead from the 2019 TCR Australia champion for the rest of the race, despite Brown being within half a second and challenging for the lead early on.

Huff, who had earlier finished fourth and second in the opening two races of the weekend, says his car continually improved over the course of the weekend at the Sydney Motorsport Park.

“Just chipping away at it all weekend just made the car better and better,” said Huff, who has moved to just one point from championship leader Norbert Michelisz.

“I wasn’t going to let Will have that one, for sure! I know we’re not fighting him, but I just paced it for the first few laps and felt the car was mega.

“I think that race probably was the first race I finally really dialled into the track, especially T1, and just fully sent it – came out of it in the end.”

Huff is one of only two drivers in the TCR World Tour field to have prior experience of the Mount Panorama circuit at Bathurst, the venue of next weekend’s penultimate round of the season.

“I love that [Bathurst] track; I did the 12 hour twice there, so I’m very much looking forward to getting my Audi TCR around there.

“We’ve got very little weight going forward from here after qualifying, so I’m super happy and if we can repeat this next weekend that would be perfect!”
