A field of 23 cars is expected to take part in the Macau round of this year’s TCR World Tour, which will mark the return of international touring car racing to the Circuito da Guia.
The event, the finale of this year’s TCR World Tour, will see the nine regular drivers taking on the legendary street circuit, bolstered by six wildcard entries and a further eight drivers who qualify via the TCR Asia Challenge.
Comtoyou Racing is fielding two Audis for 11-time Macau winner Rob Huff and Frédéric Vervisch, who won at the circuit in 2018.
They will be joined by an additional two Audis for new TCR Europe champion Tom Coronel and his challenger John Filippi.
Lynk & Co Cyan Racing will continue to field four cars, with Yann Ehrlacher, Thed Björk, Santiago Urrutia and Ma Qing Hua racing the Chinese cars. Ma is the only one of the quartet to have won in Macau, when he was victorious in the opening TCR Asia race in 2021.
The BRC Racing Hyundai team will enter three Elantra N cars into the race – two for points leader Norbert Michelisz and reigning FIA WTCR champion Mikel Azcona, and another for an as-yet unconfirmed driver, presumably entered in the hope of helping the manufacturer secure the overall TCR World Tour drivers’ title.
There will also be two new Hondas on the grid. Néstor Girolami will continue to race in the series, and will be reunited with former WTCR team-mate Esteban Guerrieri, who also contested the two TCR World Tour events in South America recently. The team to run the cars has not been confirmed.
Experienced TCR race winners Pepe Oriola and Niels Langeveld will also take part in the event. Oriola recently made his return to TCR racing in the European season finale, whilst Langeveld is battling for the TCR Italy title this coming weekend.
Ben Bargwanna – who took part in the TCR World Tour races in Portugal and Belgium earlier in the year – will also continue in the series in a Peugeot 308 TCR for Team Clairet Sport, having taken part in the two Australian rounds in the weeks prior to the event.
The field for the 70th anniversary race will be bolstered by an additional eight cars from the TCR Asia Challenge held the preceding weekend. The top eight drivers in race two of that event will be allowed to enter into the Guia race weekend, provided they use the same cars.
