Excelr8 Motorsport’s Tom Ingram took victory in the second British Touring Car Championship race at Donington Park, fighting past points leader Ash Sutton for his second win of the season.
At the start, Ingram, who had been penalised after race one for his stoic defence of Jake Hill by having the places switched, immediately dived past MB Motorsport’s Hill for second with a move down the inside at Turn 1, completed on the run to the Old Hairpin.
The Hyundai driver then set about closing in on Sutton, who had a lead of around a second after the first half a lap.
Whilst Sutton held the lead for the first three tours, going on to lap four a confident Ingram made his move at Redgate corner, completing his pass for the lead through the Craner Curves.
Sutton lacked the pace to keep with Ingram, who went on to claim his second victory of the season by just under three seconds.
Team BMW’s Colin Turkington claimed fourth, having got past Toyota’s Ricky Collard away from the line.
One Motorsport’s Josh Cook squeezed past Collard into the chicane on the opening lap to claim fifth, a position which the Honda driver held for the remainder of the race.
Having lost out on the opening lap, Collard remained sixth, ahead of NAPA Racing’s Daniel Rowbottom in seventh. Rowbottom had slipped down a place at the start, but overtook Toyota’s Rory Butcher for eighth on lap four before passing Árón Taylor-Smith two laps later for seventh.
Butcher brought his Toyota home in eighth, with the top ten being completed by BMW’s Adam Morgan – despite applying race-long pressure to the Scot – and Power Maxed Racing’s Taylor-Smith.
Excelr8’s Tom Chilton was 11th, losing two places over the course of the race, with Team HARD’s Daniel Lloyd in 12th. With Ingram drawing the number 12 ball for the partially-reversed race three grid, it gives Lloyd pole – his first reverse-grid pole since the 2022 season finale.
Three drivers failed to finish the race – Jack Butel failed to get beyond the starting grid due to technical issues and retired on the opening lap, whilst fellow Team HARD racer Daryl DeLeon ended the race in the gravel trap at Goddards.
Aiden Moffat was taken out of the race by the CUPRA of Dexter Patterson, who spun the Honda into the gravel at the old hairpin, with Moffat able to limp back to the pits for suspension repairs.
