Dan Lloyd had everything go his way after being drawn on reverse grid pole but a last lap drive shaft failure took all that away whilst leading. Lloyd ran wide at McLeans and continued round into an uncontrollable spin.
After leading from the moment the lights went out Lloyd had built a comfortable lead. Then after a safety car for debris on the circuit all of his advantage had disappeared. One extra lap was added to the race distance and that would ultimately be one lap too many for the Autobrite Direct with Millers Oils Cupra.
“The drive shaft snapped on the last lap, so a failure on the last lap,” Lloyd told TouringCars.Net. “Devastated. But the team did a really good job giving me a great car.
“Practically, we had it on a plate, so we did the job. We did ourselves proud, but obviously nothing to show for it. But I think we got the respect from others. So, yeah, try and take the positives.”
As much as it had been an upsetting weekend for the team and Lloyd the car was very much on the pace. To have lead the whole race at every moment until the failure gives hope to future races.
“We had lead the whole race. We’re getting better and better, and opportunities like that don’t come around very often. So, the idea is make the most of it, which we did. Just got on very unlucky. We’re improving all the time. So, same again before we go to Silverstone.”
