Dan Cammish topped the timesheet in the NAPA Racing UK Ford after two red flags hindered the first session back on the GP circuit. Despite the pace the #27 ended the session in the gravel at McLeans.
Just as Cammish hit the front he would not drive another half a lap after putting his car in the gravel. The Ford sustained large damage to the rear left of the car with two minutes go meaning the session would not restart. The driver went to the medical centre but is ok. The damage is substantial to the car and may be too much damage to the chassis to continue for the weekend.
This was after Mikey Doble went off at Redgate with fire extinguishers used on the front left to bring the opening red flag. Behind Cammish was the #3 of Tom Chilton. Finishing the session 0.402 seconds behind the pace setter putting together a lap time of 1:34.072.
Chilton showed the pace of the EXCELR8 Hyundai after teammate Tom Ingram stopped just after The Old Hairpin. Almost identically to the first meeting at Donington this season this time with no rear left tyre on the car.
Next on the timesheet was championship leader Ash Sutton. Not quite matching Chilton’s lap time, missing out on the top two by 0.188 seconds. Sutton set a 1:34.260 compared to his teammates 1:33.670.
Ricky Collard made Toyota Gazoo Racing UK the third fastest team in the session shy of Sutton by 0.016 seconds. Collard set 10 laps in the session, two off the session best as the red flags hindered consistent track time.
Colin Turkington was the fastest BMW in the opening session setting a 1:34.365. Again keeping the top five very close together missing out on fourth by 0.089 seconds. The top five were separated by 0.695 seconds.
Rory Butcher brought his Toyota to sixth place putting the team in a good place in behind teammate Collard. Setting a 1:34.428 the Scot was only 0.063 seconds behind Turkington with 11 laps completed.
Sam Osborne made it three NAPA Racing UK Fords inside the top 10. Having an uneventful session in comparison to teammate Cammish. Which is promising for the team if the pace setter cannot continue for the weekend.
Árón Taylor-Smith continues the upward trend of the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhalls placing his Astra in eighth place. At the end of the session Taylor-Smith was 0.914 seconds off of Cammish but only 0.512 off of second place Chilton.
Jake Hill placed his MB Motorsport BMW in ninth setting the joint most laps of the session with 12. Hill was the last driver to keep his time within a second of Cammish at the top of the times.
Rounding out the top 10 was George Gamble putting all three Toyota Gazoo Racing UK cars inside the top 10. Only 0.079 seconds behind Hill, Gamble and the team will be happy with their pace putting all three cars toward the sharp end once more.
