Dan Cammish led a NAPA Racing UK 1-2-3 but despite the pace the #27 driver was unsure after having ‘no answers’ after the summer break tyre test.
That being said, Cammish was nothing but elated to be back on top. “Really good to be on top.” Cammish told TouringCars.Net. “I enjoyed that, you know that I knew that after FP2 I really thought this could have the potential that we’ve not had in a long time in the dry and I didn’t quite believe the pace.
“To be honest, I actually over drove the first half of the qualifying session just fired it in too quick asking too much of it. Lap five was my best lap. I remember thinking, if I just sort myself out and tried to think properly and normally I’ll stop overdriving.
“And then when I went alive with a really good car that had the pace, I didn’t have to fight so hard and the time came to me the first time in a long time, so that was a great feeling. What an amazing chance as well for NAPA 1-2-3, Big moment bet everyone’s really gonna enjoy tonight.”
Cammish quickly turned his attention to tomorrow acknowledging how big of an opportunity the team have on race day. “Tomorrow is a big day for us to try convert some big results in to some points. We started the year so well in the wet, I think that was a little bit maybe a false misleading for me.
“The dry, with lots of speed has not been my friend. In qualifying I have had to work really hard, just not looking as strong. Bearing in mind Ash had been sticking it on pole.”
Cammish spoke about how the mid-summer-break tyre test had actually been if anything not helpful at the time. In the end not too sure how they got to today.
“We went to the tyre test thinking right, how do we get some speed back in this car. We’ve made a lot of changes and we’ve worked hard and we’ve copied and studied and we’ve gone our own way. We’ve done all kinds of things and the tyre test was quite inconclusive.
“I think we covered a lot of questions but had not many answers. Then we put down what we thought was the best solution and there it is. So people even keep trying I guess so they’ll very pleased Tomorrow’s a big day.
“I think we’ve had the race car all along so some days I’m not too worried about getting out of it we can not be like really excited about it but let’s see what we can do.”
