Frédéric Vervisch led a Comtoyou Racing Audi 1-2-3-4 in the second TCR World Tour practice session at Vallelunga, with the Belgian a tenth of a second ahead of TCR Europe regular John Filippi.
After Rob Huff had set the pace on Friday, it was full-time TCR World Tour team-mate Vervisch who went quickest on Saturday, as the lap times improved by half a second.
Vervisch left it until the final seconds of the session to post his best effort of 1 minute 40.093 seconds, denying Filippi the top time, with the Corsican having gone to the top with just under ten minutes to go.
Filippi was ultimately second, 0.114 seconds behind Vervisch, with Huff in third, four tenths off the top of the times, and TCR Europe racer Kobe Pauwels in fourth, a mere 0.02 seconds further back.
SP Compétition’s Aurélien Comte was a surprise fifth fastest as the ‘best of the rest’ in his CUPRA, six tenths off the pace.
Marco Butti was the fastest BRC Racing Hyundai racer in sixth, two tenths ahead of team-mate Norbert Michelisz, with Mikel Azcona directly behind his two team-mates in eighth, just over a second off the pace.
The top ten was completed by the leading Cyan Racing Lynk & Co of Santiago Urrutia and ALM Motorsport’s Néstor Girolami, the best of the Honda duo, the Argentine having left it until late in the session to go for a competitive time.
Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 14:05 CEST (13:05 BST).
