Colin Turkington storms to win completing comeback at Oulton Park

Team BMW’s Colin Turkington started the day in last place and cut his way back though the field to take the win in race three of the British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park.

Turkington started the race in third position before jumping Dan Cammish in the NAPA Racing UK Ford off the line. It was a stellar move to take the lead as Turkington went around the outside of teammate Adam Morgan. Not only did he go around the outside of Lodge Corner, he also did it at Old Hall to take the lead into Cascades.

In second was fellow BMW driver Jake Hill who capitalised on Turkington’s move on Morgan to gain the position. This was all set up as Hill made up four places on the opening lap. The gap was close to Turkington but began to grow before finishing at just under two seconds.

In third was Morgan making it a BMW 1-2-3. The driver who started on pole defended brilliantly against his teammates but in the end could not keep the pair behind. Morgan would finish two and a half seconds back from Hill.

Tom Ingram would come home to finish in fourth. The Excelr8 Motorsport driver did not get a great start and had to defend from title rival Ash Sutton off the line. As Sutton was moving along with Ingram he hit the pit wall on the front right of the car. This would break the suspension and retire the championship leader, whilst Ingram continued damage-free.

In fifth was Dan Cammish who started on the front row. It was a slow start for Cammish with many fast starting BMW’s around him. Their pace was too strong in the end and Cammish could not recoup the lost positions.

Sixth was the first of the very few soft runners in race three. As everyone bar three other drivers were on the hards, One Motorsport’s Aiden Moffat sliced through the field making up ten places to take home a top five performance.

Behind was One Motorsport teammate Josh Cook. Cook finished where he started after gaining a position from the retired Sutton and then losing it to his teammate on softs. Cook would finish only 2.127 seconds behind.

The only other soft runner inside the top ten was Dan Rowbottom. The NAPA Racing UK driver started in 21st and climbed through the field in no time to take eighth place, narrowly missing out on seventh by 0.206 seconds.

Behind were the pair of Toyota Gazoo Racing UK cars in the form of Ricky Collard and Rory Butcher. The two finished where they started unable to capitalise on the early earnt positions. One through Sutton and the other through Dan Lloyd pitting on lap one.

After the retirement of Sutton, Ingram closes the gap to six points as the summer break begins between now and Croft.
