Ash Sutton put together all three best sectors to produce a magnificent lap time to make it three pole positions in a row at Oulton Park.
Sutton was the only driver in the 1:24’s setting a 1:24.832 to take the top spot. Jake Hill was the nearest challenger to the NAPA Racing UK car only 0.225 seconds back. Hill set one more lap time than the drivers around him to solidify himself in second.
A further 0.243 seconds behind Hill was Ricky Collard with a sublime qualifying performance in the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK car. The top two were out of reach on the day but Collard will lead a tight field behind in race one on Sunday.
Bobby Thompson brought his form forward from the final practice session to make it four different manufacturers in the top four in every session this weekend. Thompson nearly made it inside the top three ending up only 0.066 seconds behind Collard.
Dan Cammish came through in fifth to improve on his 10th place finish in Q1. The NAPA Racing UK driver put an extra car between his teammate Sutton and title rival Tom Ingram. Ingram fell short of Cammish by 0.022 seconds. Ingram ended up the biggest faller from Q1 to Q2 from second to sixth.
Colin Turkington improved on his final lap completing more laps than anyone else in the final session. On his seventh and final lap Turkington set a 1:25.475 leaving the reigning champion 0.010 seconds behind Ingram.
Josh Cook was another involved in the tight scrap in the middle of the top 10. Falling to eighth only 0.012 seconds behind Turkington but also only 0.187 seconds off of third place Collard.
Árón Taylor-Smith edged out Rory Butcher on the fifth row of the grid. The Power Maxed Racing driver beat the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK driver by 0.251 seconds. Butcher unable to find the pace of teammate Collard in the final session.
In Q1 Dan Rowbottom finished 12th after a time deleted that left him 0.019 seconds shy of teammate Cammish with Adam Morgan somehow splitting the pair leaving them both narrowly close to the final session. Will Powell caused the only red flag of the session with a spin at Druids.
