Ash Sutton was lost for words after getting a third pole in a row this season in the NAPA Racing UK Ford in British Touring Car Championship qualifying at Oulton Park.
The championship leader continues his excellent qualifying form as he has failed to qualify lower than fourth so far this season.
Sutton was lost for words trying to find a new way to describe how great his car is to drive. Eventually, he came up with an old favourite to truly say how on rails the car really is.
“‘Scalextric’ – it literally feels like there’s a groove in the track and it’s dialed in it,” Sutton told TouringCars.Net. “The cars on rails, that’s all I can say. I feel like in a little bit of just repeating myself, but it’s just phenomenal to drive.
“It’s phenomenal to drive on the medium and we’ve just put the soft tyre on it and it’s come alive. It’s just mega. Absolutely mega. All good. Can’t complain.”
The pole-sitter has as many wins (six) as the rest of the field combined in the opening 12 races. On top of that he has added to his impressive qualifying record leaving no stone unturned with his pace in either qualifying or the race.
Everyone is talking about what conditions might be thrown their way on race day. Sutton, like most, feel an all-round approach will be the best come race day.
“Exactly that. Whatever the scenarios are, we’re in the best place we can be. So, if it’s raining for race one or raining for race three, we don’t know.
“I think you’ll see everyone on the same sort of tyre strategy, unfortunately, because of the way the weather’s going to play into it.
“If it’s race three, we’re all going to be off running a soft race on it too. So, it could be a bit of a stagnant day, which is going to be a shame, but we’ll see. Who knows, it could rain all day.”
