Tom Ingram moved up from seventh on the grid to fly to the front and take his maiden win of the season despite illness. The EXCELR8 driver held of Dan Cammish who had a late charge up the grid.
Ingram knew the race may be in his hands as nearly everyone in front of him was on the hard tyres compared to his mediums. Dan Rowbottom was the only driver in front that was on the mediums at the start of the race.
Ingram had made his way to the front of the field on lap five with a pass on Rowbottom into Riches. The lead looked to be set before Cammish on the softs came charging through the field. Ingram head been dealing with an illness all day and struggled post race after the effort he put together.
Cammish took to the podium after starting in 11th. Yesterday had been a day to forget for Cammish but the NAPA Racing UK driver did not let that result get the best of him. Only Rory Butcher started ahead of Cammish in the soft tyres but he managed to get past to charge towards Ingram on lap nine.
Butcher had taken a result that would have very much delighted the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK team. After Ricky Collard had stopped in race one and George Gamble did not make the start of the race a good result was exactly what the team needed.
Rowbottom came home in fourth in another good result to see his championship position improve. The NAPA Racing UK driver finished ahead of championship leader and teammate Ash Sutton who was the highest finisher on the hard tyre.
Josh Cook may have had the performance of the race making up 20 places on route to sixth. On the soft tyres the One Motorsport driver flew through the field like they were nothing. It accumulated to him passing all four BMW’s before finishing in sixth.
Stephen Jelley was the first of the Team BMW cars in seventh after what was a hectic race for WSR. Jelley got away well but the hard tyres in the last race were not up to speed which saw him fall back. Colin Turkington was next in eighth after falling to that position on lap one after a poor start and being pushed wide.
Aidan Moffatt was next to make it two One Motorsport cars in the top 10. The Scot was decisive with his moves up the field and took advantage after Jake Hill lunged on Adam Morgan which allowed Moffatt and Jelley to pass both.
Adam Morgan would round out the top 10 in what was a depleting race for the BMW’s. The hard tyre just did not have the pace in the final race as the temperature dropped later on in the day.
Correction: Cammish has been disqualified from race three for a ride height infringement.
