Rory Butcher: ‘more to come’ from new Toyota engine

Just before a head gasket went on Butcher’s car at Round 2 the Scot said “there’s a lot of really good points to this new engine.” It took 12 seasons for the Speedworks team to get an engine deal outside of the TOCA pool.

Speaking to TouringCars.net moments before the race in which the engine would die on him, Butcher was happy at the time after getting wet and dry running in the car.

“Yeah I think the engines are in a good place but I think there’s more to come. It’s like anything, you put an engine package in place and there’s so many elements to it and I think at the moment we’re just not maximising it.

“So the team are working really hard to try and get the most out of it and I think there might be another round or so but we’ll get there.”

Despite the recent issue, Butcher was positive about what is to come. Asked if there were any promising signs seen by the team Butcher was quick to commend the work they had done.

“Yeah I think we have, there’s a lot of really good points to this new engine but like I say there’s more to come I think.

“So yeah we’re really pleased with Neil Brown and their team, they’re really professional and they’ve done a great job and yeah we just need to keep working hard.”

The Toyota Gazoo Racing UK team had a difficult end to the Brands Hatch Indy weekend. Even with this being the case, the team showed they had pace. Butcher does not know exactly when that will be consistent front-running pace.

“It’s hard to say, it’s hard to say. I think we know what we need to do, it’s just how long that’ll take? I don’t know.

“So yeah it’s maybe more of a long term thing but I don’t know what that means, it could mean by next round, it might mean by the second half of the season so we’ll see, we’ll see.”
