The championship leader Dan Cammish had a “Disaster without question” after causing a red flag that may have cost his championship lead.
Cammish had caused the second red flag of the qualifying session. This left his teammate Ash Sutton to capitalize on it the short coming and took pole. The NAPA Racing UK driver did not think the incident was out of the usual.
“No, nothing spectacular.” Cammish told TouringCars.Net. “I turned in a bit early at Hamilton and I tried to turn out of it but I caught the barrier as I turned out. Then it just fired me across the track and I don’t know if it was the steering [that broke] as I’ve hit it so I’m kind of a bit of a passenger.”
“Then I’ve hit the outside wall so disappointing, hugely. Obviously I only had one lap on the board just to take it off me so it kind of compounded. Disaster without question on my part, I’ve let myself down. I feel sorry for the team and everyone.”
It has compounded his weekend drastically as he has topped the standings at the end of both weekends so far.
“Last week I was a hero and this week far from it so yeah, I don’t crash cars very often. This is a big one to swallow. Tomorrow I’ve got an opportunity to fight back and I’ve got to fight back because it’s important to come back through this grid not lose too many points.”
It was difficult to take for Cammish who topped the time sheets in the last practice session before qualifying. Despite this, he is confident in his pace for Sunday.
“Yeah, I’ve got to be. Obviously I wasn’t out there towards the end when it looked like
the track really picked up which is a shame. To top FP2 and then not have a time on the board for qualifying is a real blow but we’ve got to bounce back now.”
