Ash Sutton in the NAPA Racing UK car managed to hold of Tom Ingram in the EXCELR8 Hyundai to his first victory of the season to truly show his title charge is on.
It was the rear wheel Team BMW car of Colin Turkington that started the race on pole which meant he got a launch that saw him keep the lead. That was until Sutton pulled off an amazing switchback on the exit of Paddock Hill Bend to take the lead into Druids.
Ingram also had a magnificent start after starting fifth and ending up second after the opening exchanges. The reigning champion had launched past Dan Cammish and then passed Jake Hill all before braking into Druids on lap one.
It was Turkington that would fall short to finish third behind Ingram not too long after that allowed Ingram to start his constant pressure of eventual race winner Sutton. It would take Hill until lap 15 to pass Cammish as the NAPA Racing UK driver struggled with the pace of the MB Motorsport driver.
Rory Butcher would get an eventual sixth place finish after a steady race that saw him move up one position from his starting place. The Toyota Gazoo Racing UK driver had a relatively quiet race with no one within a second of him either in front or behind.
Behind looked to be a steady but close race between four drivers to round out the top 10 but at the final corner that all changed. The initial running saw Ricky Collard seventh, Sam Osborne eighth, Josh Cook ninth and George Gamble 10th.
This was until Osborne, the only runner in the top 10 on softs, tried to pass Collard at the final corner before punting him wide. This left Cook to cut up the inside and pass both of them to take seventh.
After the One Motorsport driver, Osborne recovered from the move to still pass Collard and remain in eighth. Collard was less lucky as he was passed by both proceeding drivers and Toyota Gazoo Racing UK teammate Gamble leaving him in 10th and his teammate in ninth.
Bobby Thompson was the first driver outside of the top 10 with what seemed to be a very disappointing result after starting in sixth. Even if that is still the case the Team HARD driver has come away from race two with reverse-grid pole and with his soft tyres still to use.
