Ash Sutton lead a NAPA Racing 1-2 in the second British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend at Thruxton, taking the chequered flag ahead of team-mate Dan Cammish.
It was a simpler race for Sutton than the dramatic race one, and he led his Cammish across the line with a gap of 1.283 seconds.
After sweeping past Team Dynamics’ Gordon Shedden on the line, Sutton spent most of the race following team-mate Cammish.
Shedden stayed in touch with the NAPA Racing duo for the first half of the race, and later brought MB Motorsport’s Jake Hill with him to make it a three way fight for second.
The NAPA duo gradually brought out a gap in the closing stages of the race and Cammish moved aside to let Sutton through. He was able to shut the door before Shedden followed him past and stayed close to Cammish to score the team’s first 1-2 of the season.
Meanwhile, title contender Colin Turkington got a difficult start off the line. The Team BMW driver was passed by Stephen Jelley before they made it to the first corner, then had both Josh Cook and Adam Morgan sweep past him simultaneously.
Turkington was able to make up a handful of positions late on, but only climbed up to P10. The result puts Sutton and Turkington tied on points at the top of the championship. The two both have the same number of wins and second place finishes. Having scored more third place finishes so far this season, Sutton is ahead.
Tenth does put Turkington on the front row of the grid for race three, as the top 11 cars will be reversed. His Team BMW team-mate Stephen Jelley starts on pole.
Meanwhile, Shedden took his fifth podium of the season in third ahead of Jake Hill and Rory Butcher. Tom Ingram held off Dan Rowbottom to finish sixth, while Cook lead Michael Crees and Turkington to complete the top ten.
Bobbie Thompson took the chequered flag 12th, narrowly missing out on reverse grid pole. Dan Lloyd and Adam Morgan also took points finishes.
The main battle of the race was for the final points paying positions. Ricky Collard climbed up from 22nd on the grid to challenge Jason Plato for P17. He managed to find a way through and continued to push forward, taking Ollie Jackson and Aiden Moffat late on to take the final points paying position.
Behind him, Jackson, Plato and Edwards battled Moffat for 16th, with the Laser Tools driver coming out on top.
Race three is scheduled to get underway at 17:20 BST.
