Ricky Collard stripped of race three podium

Toyota’s Ricky Collard has been stripped of his podium finish in the final British Touring Car Championship race at Snetterton, after he was deemed to have gained an unfair advantage.

After passing Team Dynamics’ Daniel Rowbottom on lap five, Collard held the final podium place for the rest of the race, until Excelr8 Motorsport’s Tom Ingram made a pass at Agostini on the final lap.

However, Collard immediately fought to re-take the place, muscling past Ingram’s Hyundai with contact at Williams two corners later.

Although he crossed the line in third to initially record his first podium since joining Toyota, Collard has now been penalised for the incident with Ingram and has had one second added to his race time for the move, with stewards citing regulation C2.3 “obtaining an unfair advantage (whether inadvertently or not)”.

Collard is thus classified in fourth, whilst Ingram gains the podium result and with it two more championship points.

Collard’s team-mate Rory Butcher was also penalised for spinning Stephen Jelley in the final race, but the Scot was not given a time penalty and so he keeps seventh but has been “officially reprimanded” and given two penalty points on his racing licence for causing a collision.
