The opening TCR Europe race at the Nürburgring has been postponed to Sunday, whilst the second race has been cancelled altogether, due to persistent fog at the circuit.
Qualifying on Saturday had earlier been cancelled due to the poor visibility, with the grid for race one having been agreed by the stewards to be based on the combined lap times from Friday’s practice sessions.
However, with the significant delays meaning that the headline DTM action could not get underway until later in the day, the supporting TCR Europe race was unable to take place afterwards.
It means that race one will now take the place of race two in the schedule on Sunday, with race two cancelled altogether.
The statement from the stewards said: “After receiving the information from the Organiser ITR concerning the timetable of Saturday and Sunday, the Stewards hereby notify the competitors and drivers that, due to extraordinary weather conditions, Race 1 cannot be carried out.
“The session is postponed until Sunday 28th of August at 17.50. In accordance with art.8 of the TCR Europe Sporting Regulations, the Stewards are adapting the race format of the Nürburgring Round to the time schedule by cancelling Race 2.”
