Jáchym Galáš converted his reverse-grid pole position into a first TCR Europe victory in race two at Spa-Francorchamps, heading home a Janík Motorsport 1-2 in front of Mat’o Homola.
Having qualified in tenth on Saturday, Galáš found himself starting from pole for the final race of the weekend in Belgium.
Comtoyou Racing’s Tom Coronel started alongside the Czech racer on the front row of the grid, but the Audi driver made a poor start and dropped to fourth, with Homola immediately into second and Jack Young challenging for third.
Coronel reclaimed third at Radillon on the first lap, with Josh Files then squeezing by the Honda of Young at Eau Rouge.
Championship leader Franco Girolami followed Coronel by into fourth at Les Combes, and the order at the front then remained fixed for the rest of the race.
In the final laps, Galáš was able to extend his lead to just over a second, with Coronel unable to exert any meaningful pressure to Homola either.
Thus Galáš, 20, scored his first win in the series, whilst Homola ended his difficult start to the season with a first podium finish of the year.
Coronel completed the podium, slightly closing the gap in the championship to Comtoyou Racing team-mate Girolami, who followed him home in fourth.
Files applied significant pressure to Girolami’s Audi late in the race, but the Target Competition driver couldn’t find a gap and finished in fifth, less than a tenth of a second behind after trying to pass exiting the final chicane on the run to the chequered flag.
Halder Motorsport’s Young was sixth, the Northern Irishman withstanding heavy pressure from race one winner Isidro Callejas, who was seventh.
Volcano Motorsport’s Klim Gavrilov got by Target’s Felice Jelmini for eighth going along the Kemmel Straight on lap four, with Jelmini finishing ninth and Brutal Fish Racing’s Pepe Oriola completing the top ten in a race which was largely devoid of overtaking moves in the top ten.
Evgenii Leonov applied some pressure to Oriola for tenth before running wide and dropping back, finishing 11th in his CUPRA, ahead of Target’s Nicola Baldan in 12th, the Italian dropping five places on the opening lap after being muscled out at La Source.
Viktor Davidovski retired on the final lap, having run in 16th, after crashing into the back of Giacomo Ghermandi’s CUPRA at the La Source hairpin.
Felipe Fernández also stopped on the last lap, whilst Martin ryba brought his Brutal Fish Honda to the pits to retire after four laps completed.
Girolami continues to lead the standings with 205 points, ahead of Coronel (174), Gavrilov (153), Callejas (145) and Files (133).
The next event takes place at the Norisring in Germany on 2 – 3 July.
