Tom Ingram makes it two from two at Oulton Park

Tom Ingram made it two British Touring Car Championship wins from two with a second lights to flag victory at Oulton Park.

It was a full green flag race for the second British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend, but the top two were separated by less than a second when the chequered flag fell.

Ingram enjoyed another relatively simple race, controlling the field from the front. Second placed Ashley Sutton challenged the Exceler8 Motorsport driver early on, but couldn’t find a way past.

It wasn’t long before Ingram had shaken Sutton off his tail. From that point on, a faultless race for Ingram left no opportunity for the NAPA Racing UK driver to snatch the victory.

As in race one, the battle for third was one of the closest fought in the field. After attempting to pass Sutton off the line, Toyota’s Rory Butcher found himself under attack from Team BMW’s Colin Turkington. The pair ran nose-to-tail for a number of laps, with Turkington unable to make a move stick on Butcher’s Toyota.

Turkington attempted a move around the outside of the Island Bend, staying side by side with Butcher throughout the corner until he was finally able to get ahead on the exit.

The battle for third wasn’t caught by those behind, as fifth placed Dan Cammish was forced to defend in a five-way fight for position.

Gordon Shedden, who had earlier been handed a three-place penalty for contact with Adam Morgan in the opening race, led the train of drivers behind him, with Dan Lloyd, Josh Cook, and Jake Hill all close behind.

Cammish put on an impressive defensive performance, rubbing wheels with Shedden when the pair went side by side, but Shedden was finally able to find a way through on lap ten of 15.

Cammish couldn’t fight back and Shedden pulled away from the NAPA Racing driver. Lloyd and Hill continued to try to find a way past Cammish, only to get into a battle among themselves. That gave Cammish some breathing room and he came through to finish sixth. Hill held off Lloyd for seventh, with Josh Cook close behind.

Ricky Collard and Aiden Moffar rounded out the top ten.

Aiden Moffat beat Stephen Jelley to 11th, with Michael Crees, Bobby Thompson and Aron Taylor-Smith completing the points paying positions.

From the back of the grid after his race one accident, Adam Morgan narrowly missed out on a points paying position, finishing 16th after a tight battle with Jason Plato.

Ingram’s second victory has seen him draw level on points with Cook at the top of the drivers’ standings, with the pair now sharing 154 points, whilst Sutton is only three adrift after a fifth straight podium finish.

The reverse grid draw for race three will see the top 12 finishers reversed, giving pole position to Team BMW’s Stephen Jelley, with Laser Tools Racing’s Aiden Moffat alongside on the front row.

The final race of the day is scheduled to get underway at 17:10 BST.
