NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Cammish is ‘more determined than ever’ to build momentum in his 2022 British Touring Car Championship campaign at Oulton Park this weekend, after frustrations in the opening events of the year.
A fire in qualifying in the first weekend of the year at Donington Park left Cammish with an uphill battle on race day, which meant he missed out on top ten results.
Although he was twice on the podium at Brands Hatch in the next event, at Thruxton the 33-year-old was fired off the circuit by Daniel Rowbottom in race one, again putting him on the back foot for the rest of the races, in which he struggled to get close to the points.
The dramas have left Cammish, a pre-season title favourite, down in 13th in the drivers’ championship standings, a huge 98 points adrift of the top of the table.
Although Cammish heads to the Cheshire circuit with optimism, he has never previously won in a touring car at the circuit, although he finished second in race onei n both 2019 and 2020.
“Our season starts here really, we’ve got to hit the ground running at Oulton and take away three very strong and consistent results,” said Cammish.
“It’s been a frustrating beginning to the championship for us, apart from the podiums at Brands of course, and I really was in disbelief after Thruxton. Through no fault of our own we got caught-up in other people’s incidents and the weekend became a write-off.
“I’m more determined than ever now to show what we’re made of and get back on that podium.”
Motorbase Performance Team Manager Oly Collins believes that Cammish having the full allowance of hybrid boost going into qualifying and race one this weekend could prove to be particularly beneficial.
“I think hybrid used correctly could be strong at Oulton, so it will be about managing that early in the weekend and coming away with a strong points haul,” said Collins.
“Dan will be going into the weekend more aggressively as he needs to get back on the podium. He has a full complement of hybrid in qualifying and has shown great pace everywhere so far, especially in qualifying.”
