Romeo Ferraris will enter this year’s FIA eTouring Car World Cup, ensuring the continued presence of its self-developed Alfa Romeo Giulia ETCR cars on the grid.
The Opera, Italy-based team built the Giulia ETCR in time for last year’s inaugural PURE ETCR season, with the cars being campaigned in conjunction with Hungary-based M1RA.
This year the company will enter its own cars into the series, joining CUPRA and Hyundai in confirming entries into the all-electric series.
Romeo Ferraris was second in the 2021 Manufacturers’ classification when it operated with M1RA, having secured 579 points and a historic 1-2 finish in the Danish round on the streets of Copenhagen.
“We are approaching the second season of the ETCR, a competition ready for significant growth thanks to the FIA status, with great enthusiasm,” said Team Principal Michela Cerruti.
“We are proud to have taken this challenge from the beginning, launching the Giulia ETCR project that saw us fight on equal terms against two major automotive groups, finishing second in the 2021 rankings and contributing to the promotion of a more sustainable motorsport.
“In recent months we have worked on every front with the aim to obtain further satisfactions in 2022, and we can’t wait to test ourselves as from the season-opener in Pau, on an urban track so rich in history.”
The team’s 2022 driver line-up will be revealed shortly. In 2021 it fielded Rodrigo Baptista, Luca Filippi, Stefano Coletti, Philipp Eng and Luigi Ferrara during the year in its two cars.
The 2022 FIA ETCR season gets underway on the streets of Pau in France on 6 – 8 May.
