Jack Young joins Mike and Michelle Halder in TCR Europe

JAS Motorsport Development Driver Jack Young will remain in the TCR Europe series in 2022, staying in Honda machinery but switching teams to complete the Halder Motorsport line-up.

Halder Motorsport had already announced plans to run a three-car team in the European series, and Northern Irishman Young has now been confirmed as the German squad’s third driver alongside borther and sister pairing Mike and Michelle.

Young, 20, made his TCR Europe début in Barcelona I 2019 and immediately impressed, picking up a brace of foirth-place finishes in the Renault Mégane RS TCR.

A 2020 foray into the FIA World Touring Car Cup lasted just two events, and for 2021 Young joined the JAS Development Driver programme and completed a season in TCR Europe with Brutal Fish Racing.

Three podium finishes followed in the European series last year, whilst Young also claimed a podium in a one-off outing in TCR Italy at Misano.

As part of his Development Driver Programme role, Young will learn on-and-off track skills in a variety of areas, with expertise and coaching provided by JAS Motorsport technicians and managers as well as drivers from the Honda Racing family.

“I’m really excited for the season ahead,” said Young, tenth overall in last year’s TCR Europe standings. “I expect it’s going to be a more challenging year, which is something I’m really up for.

“Last year, we showed we had good pace, and now this year the aim is to go for more consistency and get better results, and hopefully be in a position to challenge for the championship.

“I’m also excited to be working with Mike and Michelle Halder, my new team-mates. It’s great to have good drivers to work with and to compare yourself to and get the best out of the car.

“We already know the level of the championship this year is going to be very high – which is why I’m really happy to be back in the series and to be with JAS Motorsport again as part of their Driver Development Programme.

“I’m also looking forward to being at a new team with Mike and Michelle, and I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel next month in Portimao.”

Riccardo Incarbone, JAS Motorsport Driver Development Programme Manager, added: “This is an exciting opportunity for Jack and exactly the kind of programme we are keen to support through the Driver Development Programme.

“Jack’s made huge progress since joining the DDP last year and really taken on-board what we’ve taught him about bettering himself inside and outside the car.

“He wants to challenge for the title and I fully expect that with one more year’s experience under his belt, and within a team as strong as Halder Motorsport – who are used to winning titles – he’ll have a very good year.”

Mike and Michelle Halder have already proven themselves as TCR Europe race winners, with Mike having three wins to his name in the series, as well as being a title contender in 2020, and Michelle also having won once in 2020.
