Jade Edwards will contest her second full season in the British Touring Car Championship in 2022, after BTC Racing today confirmed her retention in its three-car Honda Civic squad.
Edwards made her début in the BTCC with a one-off outing with Power Maxed Racing in 2020, before embarking on her first full season in 2021.
The 31-year-old ended the year 26th overall in the drivers’ championship, having secured a best result of 15th in the final race at Snetterton early in the year.
Edwards insists she is focussed on becoming a regular challenger for points, having picked up just one point last year.
“I can’t wait for my second full season in the BTCC and I’ll be aiming to build on everything I’ve learnt,” said Edwards.
“I’m not there to make up the numbers and I intend on proving that from the outset. I can’t thank Steve enough for his continued support and for putting his faith in me once again.”
BTC Racing Team Owner Steve Dudman added that he believes Edwards deserves to be on the grid on merit.
“Jade fully deserves her place on the grid after a promising 2021 season,” said Dudman. “We have every faith in her ability as a racing driver.
“We’ll assist with her continued development, which I’m sure will see her compete with the very best on a regular basis. Diversity shouldn’t be just a tick box.”
Ahead of the new season, BTC Racing has appointed former BTCC racer Danny Buxton as its new Managing Director, allowing Dudman to step away from the role and focus on some of his other business ventures more.
“Whilst I’m new to the team, I’ve known and worked with Jade for many years now, so I’m fully aware of her ability on track,” said Buxton, himself a BTCC racer back in 2003.
“My job is to ensure that Jade maximises her performance potential each and every time she’s in the car. If executed correctly, she’ll do an outstanding job.”
