TCR Brazil set to launch in 2023

The promoter of the TCR South America series has announced that from 2023 a new national TCR series, TCR Brazil, will be launched with at least six events.

TCR South America began in 2021, promoted by Maurício Slaviero, who also was a former president of the Brazilian Stock Car Championship, and Felipe McGough.

Slaviero, who is also a director in ETCR, will now also promote the new national TCR series, which marks a return to front-wheel drive touring car competition in the country for the first time since the Campeonato Brasileiro de Marcas, which was run up until 2018.

Five Brazilian teams (PropCar Racing, Cobra Racing, W2 Pro GP, Scuderia CJ and MC Tubarão) took part in the inaugural season of TCR South America last year.

“The TCR concept revolutionised the scene of touring car racing around the world,” said Slaviero. “With a profitable platform, you can deliver cars from different manufacturers with similar conditions and the possibility of an international career for teams and pilots.

“The inaugural season of TCR South America was attended by more than 50 drivers, of eight different nationalities.

“The majority of the teams are Brazilian, so it’s an important part of the grid. The potential of TCR Brazil is enormous, which in its inaugural season will share events in Brazil with TCR South America and will integrate events from other categories in the rest of the calendar.”

WSC president Marcello Lotti highlighted the continued growth of the TCR concept internationally.

“We are delighted to see that the TCR category continues to expand seven years after its launch,” said Lotti.

“In 2021, the maiden season of TCR South America has opened a new and important market, giving teams and drivers from the whole region the opportunity to experience the thrill of TCR competition.

“We are very pleased that the enthusiastic participation of many Brazilian competitors in TCR South America is now leading to the birth of TCR Brazil.”
