Fabian Coulthard will make his début in the TCR Australia series at Symmons Plains Raceway next week, when he will race a Wall Racing-prepared Honda Civic Type-R.
The deal has been done to help promote new broadcaster Stan Sport for the Australian Racing Group, the promoter of TCR Australia, motorsport categories.
Coulthard, 39, has competed full-time in the Supercars series since 2008, and he made his début in top-line Australian touring cars back in 2004.
The 13-time Supercars winner will now make his first appearance in the front-wheel drive category in Tasmania, although the deal is a one-off.
Coulthard, who will become team-mates with Tony D’Alberto once again for the event, will race the car which was driven in 2021 by John Martin.
“It’s an exciting opportunity to guest drive in TCR with the backing of Stan Sport,” said Coulthard.
“David [Wall]’s team is very professional and is the perfect way to sample what TCR is all about. I’ll be looking to get some tips from my old mate Tony D’Alberto and I’m excited to partner with him again.
“Although I lack experience racing a front-wheel-drive touring car compared to my rivals, it provides a new challenge for me.
“It’s great to be a part of the launch of the Stan Sport deal too. The more motorsport we have on our televisions is great news, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out over the next few years.”
David Wall, team owner of Wall Racing, believes he has a strong line-up for the opening event of the 2021 season in D’Alberto and Coulthard.
“It’s great to welcome a driver the quality of Fabian to not only the team, but the category,” said Wall.
“With Fabian joining Tony in Tasmania, it is a formidable team and we aim to improve upon last year’s results at Symmons Plains.
“We can’t wait to represent the Honda brand once again on the TCR Australia stage.”
