Josh Cook got the better of BTC Racing teammate Senna Proctor as the pair finished first and second in round 27 of the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch.
Cook, who started 2nd on the grid behind teammate Proctor, managed to make a fine cutback move on the exit of Paddock Hill Bend and got up the inside of his teammate at Druids.
The leading pair then gradually pulled out a lead ahead of the chasing pack, although Halfords Racing with Cataclean’s Gordon Shedden did try and match the pace of the two leaders following the safety car period caused after Andy Neate spun into the gravel at Druids on lap five.
Shedden had earlier got ahead of teammate Daniel Rowbottom, with the Jack Sears Trophy champion also being pushed down a further position to fifth after Dan Lloyd in the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall overtook him on the second lap of the race.
Championship leader Ash Sutton ended race one of the day in sixth as he continues his pursuit for his third title.
The result means he extends his lead at the top of the standings by an extra point, after the Infiniti driver finished one place higher than rival Colin Turkington who couldn’t overtake him in race one.
With two races remaining, Sutton now leads the championship by 33 points ahead of Turkington, with the other three contenders – Tom Ingram, Jake Hill and race winner Cook, all now out of contention for the 2021 title.
The top 10 in race one were completed by the second Laser Tools Racing Infiniti of Aiden Moffat, Tom Chilton who continued his impressive weekend in the Car Gods with Ciciely Motorsport BMW and Ollie Jackson in the MB Motorsport with Bluesquare Ford Focus.
Stephen Jelley, who had been running ahead of drivers including Ingram and Hill, appeared to slow on the penultimate lap with mechanical problems and slid down the order to 23rd by the end of the race.
Race two of the weekend is set to take place at 14:30 BST.
