Dominik Fugel was again the pace-setter in Sunday morning’s second qualifying session for ADAC TCR Germany at the Sachsenring, with the Honda driver two tenths of a second clear of the Hyundai of Nico Gruber.
Fugel, who improved six minutes from the end of the 20-minute session, was fastest of all, although the 24-year-old was a tenth of a second slower than his pole time from yesterday.
Gruber emerged as the closest challenger in dry conditions in eastern Germany, ahead of championship leader Luca Engstler in third.
The second Honda of Marcel Fugel was fourth, the only other driver within a half a second of his brother.
Guest entrant Christopher Röhner made it a strong session for Team Honda ADAC Sachsen by ending with the fifth best time, ahead of Hyundai Team Engstler’s Martin Andersen in sixth, the Dane having been Fugel’s closest challenger in Saturday’s qualifying session.
Philipp Regensperger put his Opel Astra in seventh, ahead of René Kircher’s Volkswagen Golf in eighth.
Eric Scalvini endured another difficult qualifying session, with the title contender just 13th fastest, almost two seconds off the pace in his CUPRA.
Race two is scheduled to get underway at 11:45 CEST (10:45 BST).
