Dominik Fugel put his Honda on pole position for the opening ADAC TCR Germany race of the weekend at the Sachsenring, edging out Hyundai Team Engstler’s Martin Andersen by 0.147 seconds.
Fugel set the pace early in the session and held the top spot thereafter, giving the 24-year-old his first pole of the season.
Andersen was a tenth and a half behind, whilst Marcel Fugel made it a strong overall session for Honda ADAC Sachsen at their home circuit, posting the third quickest time, three tenths adrift.
Championship leader Luca Engstler could only manage fourth, over half a second off the pace, ahead of René Kircher’s Volkswagen in fifth, the Team Oettinger driver just 0.017 seconds slower than Engstler’s Hyundai.
Returning guest driver Christopher Röhner was sixth, ahead of Philipp Regensperger’s Opel in seventh and Nicolas Gruber’s Hyundai in eighth.
The top ten was completed by the Hyundais of Jonas Karklys and Patrick Sing, both over a second off Fugel’s pace.
Title contender Eric Scalvini was down in 11th, 1.5 seconds off the pace in the leading CUPRA in the field.
Race one is scheduled to get underway at 14:10 CEST (13:10 BST).
