Czech racer Petr Fulín will make a return to the FIA World Touring Car Cup next weekend at Autodrom Most, entering as a wildcard in a CUPRA Leon Competición.
Fulín has previously competed in WTCR as wildcard entries for the 2018 and 2020 races in Slovakia, but he has not raced a touring car since his last outing in October last year, where he scored a best result of 11th in race two.
The 44-year-old will enter with support from partners including VEXTA DOMY. He will be ineligible for points and will also have to carry 10 kg of additional compensation weight.
The three-time FIA European Touring Car Cup winner admitted that he didn’t want to miss the chance to be a part of his first-ever home WTCR event.
“The first ever FIA WTCR event on my home ground without me on the grid was inconceivable,” said Fulín. “When I realised that the FIA WTCR calendar was changed due to the COVID situation in Asia and one of the substitute events will take place in Most, I began to work on it immediately to start as a wildcard.
“We have almost no experience with Goodyear tyres and I know the CUPRA will get more compensation weight after Hungaroring.
“On top of that I will get some ballast as a wildcard. But I would like to thank all my sponsors and friends so I can participate at the FIA WTCR event in Most.
“When I leave Most on Sunday evening, I want to be sure that we made everything possible for the success.”
In recent years, Fulín has also competed sporadically in races in TCR Europe and TCR Germany, winning a race at Most in the latter series in 2018 in an older-generation CUPRA TCR.
