PSS Racing’s Franco Girolami praised both his team and car after he grabbed pole position for the opening race of the weekend in TCR Europe at Monza.
Girolami ended Q2 just 0.010 seconds ahead of qualifying rival Jack Young in a similar Honda Civic and the championship frontrunner admitted his result was something to be proud of for both him and his team.
“I want to thank and congratulate the entire PSS Racing team,” explained Girolami.
“They did an amazing job, the car was amazing and to score the ten points with sixty kilos of ballast is very good.
“Qualifying is very important but I did a long run in both FP1 and FP2 yesterday and practiced the long run ready for the race.”
Girolami, who is competing against Mikel Azcona for the TCR Europe, will be looking to make the most of his rival’s poorer session on Saturday morning after the Spaniard ended the session seventh fastest.
Although the Argentine lines up on pole for today’s race that is set to take place in dry conditions, weather forecasts for the Italian circuit appear to suggest that race two on Sunday could take place in much wetter conditions and Girolami added that he hopes past experience will help benefit him if wet weather hits the circuit.
The weather is supposed to be heavy rain tomorrow, so we will see what happens,” said Girolami.
“But even though I don’t have much experience in TCR I have a lot of experience racing in the rain in Argentina and so maybe it will be good for me.”
Race one at Monza is set to take place at 13:05 CEST (12:05 BST).
