Jack Goff topped the second free practice session at an ever-drying Oulton Park on Saturday afternoon in the British Touring Car Championship.
The Team HARD. with Autobrite Direct CUPRA driver made the most of the changing track conditions to end the session just eight thousandths of a second faster than Rory Butcher in the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK Corolla.
FP2 had started in wet conditions, however the 40-minute session would see the track conditions improve considerably and it took just over a quarter of the session to show that slicks were the way forward.
Gordon Shedden was the first driver to take advantage of the drying track and had set a string of fastest times ahead of Halfords Racing with Cataclean teammate Dan Rowbottom following behind as the session hit its midway point.
Their times singled that the circuit was now dry enough for slicks, and times continued to fall throughout the remainder of the session with a number of drivers all trading fastest lap times as a result.
These included Butcher, Adrian Flux with Power Maxed Racing duo Dan Lloyd and Jason Plato, BTC Racing’s Senna Procter and also Sam Osborne in the MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square Ford Focus.
By the end of the session, Proctor was third quickest, just over quarter of a second slower than Goff, with Plato taking fourth, 0.165 seconds further adrift.
Adam Morgan in the Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport BMW was fifth fastest ahead of one time session leader Osborne, with Tom Ingram, who had sat out the first part of FP2 as the track dried, claiming seventh.
Championship leader Ash Sutton, who along with Laser Tools Racing teammate Aiden Moffat had been given a black flag earlier in the session for track limits infringements, finished the session eighth quickest ahead of Shedden and Stephen Jelley in the leading West Surrey Racing BMW.
Series debutant Jack Mitchell finished an impressive 11th in another of the Team HARD CUPRA’s, while Rowbottom in the second Team Dynamics Honda was 12th.
Jake Hill finished the session 13th quickest ahead of Josh Cook and Aiden Moffat, while FP1 leader Tom Oliphant could only end the second practice of the session down in 20th.
Qualifying at Oulton Park is set to get underway at 15:10 BST this afternoon.
