The planned TCR Australia race at Morgan Park will no longer take place this year, after COVID-19 outbreaks in Melbourne and Sydney have caused state border closures.
Originally scheduled for 25 – 27 June, the event was already delayed due to coronavirus restrictions in the country, with its more recent date change having seen the event moved to 13 – 15 August.
But the event will now not take place at all this year due to the latest round of COVID-induced restrictions in the country.
“We have an obligation to look after the wellbeing of all stakeholders as well as put on events that are fair to all competitors who are part of our national series and championships,” explained Michael Smith, Motorsport Australia Director of Motorsport and Commercial Operations.
“Given the complexities in preparing for an event like the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships, and potential travel restrictions limiting the participation for many, a decision has been made early for the benefit of our competitors, officials, suppliers and of course the loyal motorsport fans.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the event to date, including our commercial and government partners.”
The next round currently scheduled will be at Sandown on 17 – 19 September, but additional rounds for the 2021 season are being explored for the latter half of the year, with promoter ARG stating that “details are to be confirmed in the coming weeks and months”.
