Tom Coronel said it’s ‘really good’ to be starting on the front row of the grid ahead of the opening TCR Europe race at Zandvoort.
Coronel had momentarily gone fastest overall in the second section of qualifying ahead of session long rival Jack Young, but the Dutchman had to settle for second on the grid after the Brutal Fish Racing Honda man went fastest of all late in the session.
Despite missing out on pole, the home driver admitted he was happy to still be near the front of the grid.
“To be on the front row is really good, but on home ground you want to show that you know the track really well,” said Coronel.
“I think I did very well – the team said ‘great, P1’ but they forgot that Young was still behind, he was still pushing and he took the pole, but the front row is still good; it will be an interesting race and I’m ready.
The ComToYou Racing driver also went on to explain some of his plans on how to finish strongly in the opening race of the weekend later on Saturday.
“Despite the changes to the track, it’s still difficult to overtake here but of course I’m going to try!” added Coronel.
“It will be a good race, that’s 100% sure. I don’t know where the Honda is good compared to the Audi because I haven’t really driven behind one. I saw on the sheets that they are fast on the straights, so I will have to do it in the midfield…”
Race one of the TCR Europe championship at Zandvoort is set to take place later today at 17:20 CEST (16:20 BST).
