The 2022 BTCC calendar has been announced by series promoter TOCA, featuring ten race weekends at eight different circuits, with Donington Park set to host the season opener in late April.
In a break from holding just one pre-season test day, next year the championship will host three official test days at various venues in order to allow as much time as practical for teams to carry out testing of the new hybrid systems.
Extensive testing and development of the new hybrid system continues throughout 2021, ahead of its planned introduction next year.
The season will kick off on 23 – 24 April at Donington Park in The Midlands, before moving to Brands Hatch Indy in mid-May.
Thruxton retains its May date for its first event, with the Hampshire circuit hosting two rounds next season.
Croft, Knockhill and Snetterton have all retained traditional summer dates, although Knockhill has moved a month earlier than its usual August bank holiday weekend to now occupy a late July date.
That, in turn, means that the second trip to Thruxton will be on the August bank holiday weekend.
The season concludes with trips to the Silverstone National circuit in September and Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in early October.
“I’m pleased to confirm our calendar for the 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship,” said BTCC Chief Executive Alan Gow.
“As the biggest series in the UK, it is vital that our schedule is issued so early, to allow the rest of British motorsport to plan their respective calendars.”
